Crowns and Tiaras

Kerri Judd and Danyel Montecinos
2007 Lark Books, a Division of Sterling Publishing Co, Inc.

Why NOT add a little sparkle, glitter and glamour to every day life, family events and special occasions?

My attention was completely grabbed just by looking at the cover of this volume. It features a very pretty, smiling lady wearing a very bizarre confection made of chicken wire, tinsel, beads and glitter……on her head.

And that’s when I said, I’m buying this book!

As I paged through, I discovered numerous project you can easily craft with basic jewelry making supplies, art papers, glues and found items. The projects make me feel like a kid in a candy store! Cloth, paper, scissors….and a little newsprint, maybe? Here we go!

There are Dulcinea-Rapunzel styles out of a fairy story, cake-box looks, amazing headpieces made of stray beads and seashells! There are also more typical tiaras fit for a bride, built from the bottom up by forming wire into a headband, adding a framework of wire and then attaching crystal beads, old rhinestone jewelry, and silverplated filigree. Throughout the book I also recognized various pieces we carry at this site, www.bsueboutiques.com It was quite interesting to see how they had manipulated the filigree into the piece.

Although the creations seem quite elaborate, you would only need, for the most part, rudimentary craft skills….and a place to make a mess! Let your creativity soar….there truly is no right or wrong, here! The lovely photography is inspiring and motivating.

You can get a copy of this book for only 14.95, well worth its quite reasonable asking price.

Check out the mission statement made in the front of the book:

“Because we hold our heads high, through triumph and adversity; because our hearts are full and our hands desire to create great beauty for others; because we deeply honor the gifts of our beloved friend and family, and want to celebrate those gifts in an extraordinary way; that is why we create crowns.”

I think maybe I’ll create crowns, too!

Thanks for the great book, girls!
