SLK Art Mechanique Two Part Silicone Molding Putty for Resin Casting
From Susan Lenart Kazmer, the Queen of Ice Resin. This is THE molding putty to use with resin casting. It is non toxic and comes in two tubs, two parts. Six ounce size. Simple to mix, it allows for a full 5 minutes of working time and yet will be fully cured and ready for ICE Resin in about ten minutes. The resolution quality is excellent in this jeweler’s grade putty and high definition molds can be easily made. Six ounce size. TO USE: Mix equal amounts of the two parts together by kneading (it's okay to eyeball it, the putty is not as fussy is the resin mixture. For more instructions on using our Jeweler’s Grade Molding Putty with ICE Resin, refer to Jen Cushman’s book, “Explore, Create, Resinate” which is usually in stock on our website.
More tips: Susan says that the first casting made in a new silicone mold is usually 'iffy'. This is because of off-gassing of the product. One thing you can do to get beyond that is to make the mold and let it rest/set up for about TWENTY minutes. Then place it in your dedicated toaster oven for about an hour to an hour and a half on about 125-150 degrees. This will cure it much further and will cut down on some of the off-gassing. After the first casting, the subsequent material made with the mold should be perfect!
