Rusted Iron, Pewter

Rusted Iron pewter castings look like found items, old and forgotten. Someone remarked that they look like things that have been buried for 100 years. Others fascinated by them have said that they look like artifacts from another place and time.

Rusted Iron is a specific artisan finish made with a pure copper overlay on top of the pewter, and then covered with a deeply burnished iron oxide top coat. Then the professional finisher creates the subtle copper highlights you see on the castings. It would be very hard to re-create at home because of the process used to produce it.

This finish is also interactive. You can distress it with ultra fine steel wool or a rectangular nail block such as they use for manicures at a salon. This will release even more of the copper highlighting underneath the iron coat, but over the pewter.

Iron oxide is a very deep brown-black. You can accent it with ink patinas, if you wish. I suspect that Swellegant patinas may work directly on Rusted Iron castings without adding a metal coat. I will soon be experimenting and will report the results!

All of the B'sue by castings are made from antique molds, some of which have not seen the light of day for years. New ones are also being created from antique stampings, found items and buttons as well as original artwork, just for this line.

You owe it to yourself to try some!
